How to use any BIM Common Data Environment (e.g. ACCA, Autodesk, Bentley, Dassault, Trimble) with GIS to create Spatial Digital Twins using openBIM® models and point clouds

Most organizations working at the intersection of BIM and GIS face the same structural problem: their data lives in multiple Common Data Environments — sometimes different CDEs across different departments, projects, or stakeholders — and no single platform speaks all of them fluently. This session addresses that problem head-on. The presentation demonstrates how usBIM.geotwin, acca's cloud-based GIS platform, connects natively with any major CDE — including ACCA, Autodesk, Bentley, Dassault, and Trimble — to extract openBIM® models in IFC format and integrate them directly into an ESRI ArcGIS environment. The result is a vendor-neutral, open-standard workflow that eliminates the need to choose between BIM platforms: organizations can keep working in the CDE they already use, while feeding a shared Geospatial Digital Twin with consistent, interoperable data. The session then explores what becomes possible once that integration is in place. usBIM.geotwin imposes no practical limits on the scale of what can be managed: from individual structures to regional infrastructure networks, from dozens of assets to thousands, from city districts to full smart city deployments. Multiple IFC models from different sources and different CDEs can be combined into a single unified geospatial environment, queried together, and updated independently — without rebuilding the underlying data architecture. A dedicated section addresses point cloud integration: how raw scan data can be ingested into the platform, segmented into meaningful components, enriched with structured attributes, and published on the GIS alongside traditional BIM models. This opens the door to accurate digital twinning of existing assets — infrastructure, heritage buildings, urban environments — where IFC models may not yet exist or may not be the primary data source. Taken together, these three capabilities — CDE interoperability, unlimited scalability, and point cloud support — define a new baseline for what a production-ready Geospatial Digital Twin platform should be able to do. Attendees will leave with a concrete understanding of the integration workflow, the technical architecture that makes it possible, and the practical implications for organizations managing large, heterogeneous asset portfolios across extended territories.
