What Can AI Do for LiDAR Today? Automated Classification and Practical Workflows in LP360

17 Sept 2026
Main Stage
Hydrography & LiDAR Applications
This presentation addresses a key question in the geospatial industry: what can artificial intelligence deliver today in LiDAR processing, and how does it work in practice? Using LP360 as a reference platform, the session demonstrates modern AI-based classification workflows capable of automatically segmenting point clouds into classes such as ground, vegetation, building roofs, roof objects, walls, vehicles, bridge decks, and water surfaces. In addition, specialized AI workflows are presented, including automated tree segmentation for forestry applications and feature extraction for transmission line projects, such as wires, towers/poles, insulators, and guard wires. The presentation includes professional results from real-world mapping projects, explains how the tools operate, and highlights advanced use cases where AI supports the generation of orthomosaics and cartographic products. The goal is to provide a clear and practical understanding of how AI can increase efficiency, reduce manual effort, and improve the overall quality of LiDAR deliverables.
