From Crime Scene to Digital Twin - 3D Surveying in Forensic Science

1.1.4 Extended Reality
The 3D Surveying and Visualization Division of the Baden-Württemberg State Criminal Police Office (LKA) is responsible for the precise recording and representation of the geometry of crime scenes. This is accomplished primarily through photogrammetry and laser scanning, with the goal of creating a three-dimensional digital twin of the crime scene. This documentation is supplemented with crime scene-relevant reconstructions, such as bullet trajectories. The reconstructions are used, among other things, for case conferences during special investigation task forces, for communication between experts and investigators, and for visualizations in court.
