MetGIS GmbH, a spin-off of the University of Vienna (Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics), specializes in high-resolution weather forecasts and historical weather and climate data. Unlike the usual standard, MetGIS incorporates ultra-high-resolution terrain data into its weather simulations. This data feeds the company's proprietary downscaling algorithms, resulting in calculations of the highest quality. A unique development of MetGIS is the web-based Pro+ Weather Dashboard. This graphical user interface allows users to view operational weather forecasts for very limited areas in extreme detail (with resolutions down to 30 m!) and – for the first time – in 3D. A true international innovation! In this presentation, attendees will learn about high-end weather simulation systems, see various 3D animation examples, and discover how to access the data via APIs. These include point forecasts (including long-range forecasts for up to 7 months), weather maps, historical weather data, climate data, snow cover data, precipitation radar, and weather alerts. MetGIS algorithms are already finding useful applications in a wide variety of industries, such as energy, agriculture, transport and logistics, construction, open-pit mining, tourism, and winter sports.
