Drones are increasingly becoming an essential tool in the agricultural sector. Serving as sensor platforms, they enable the monitoring of cultivated areas from a bird's-eye view and provide up-to-date information. This allows for rapid and tailored responses, while the ability to easily acquire time-series data yields valuable insights. Simultaneously, specialized agricultural drones are available that can distribute fertilizers, crop protection products, or seeds during flight. The synergy of both technologies opens up promising new fields of application for the targeted and resource-efficient use of agricultural inputs. For instance, the site-specific treatment of weed patches or pests requires precise prior mapping at the optimal time. The deployment of these systems ultimately benefits from increasingly user-friendly control options and advancing automation – in both crop monitoring and the application of materials.
