Beyond GNSS: Transforming Precision Positioning into a Resilient Multi-Sensor Ecosystem
The requirements for precise positioning have reached a new turning point. While classic geodesy was dominated by absolute accuracy in a "best-case scenario," modern applications in autonomy, robotics, and critical infrastructure now demand guaranteed availability and integrity - even under the most adverse conditions. This presentation highlights the paradigm shift from pure GNSS positioning toward a holistic multi-sensor approach. We analyze how the intelligent integration of GNSS & correction data, inertial sensors (IMU), and additional perception data within a modern positioning engine creates the foundation for resilient PNT (Positioning, Navigation, and Timing) systems. The contribution demonstrates how Trimble, by combining high-end algorithms with global services, is paving the way to transform raw positioning data into a reliable basis for decision-making in safety-critical applications.
