Airbus Future Assets for Earth Observation: Pléiades Neo Next, CO3D and PAZ-2
Building on decades of industry leadership and expertise Airbus is evolving its satellite constellation to meet the growing demands of the market. This evolution is driven by the introduction of multi-resolution and multi-sensor capabilities, aimed to provide unparalleled imagery and services through 2040 and beyond.
The constellation will lead the premium market by delivering trusted 20cm-class native optical imagery.
It will ensure market continuity by providing consistent 50cm imagery and advanced stereo imaging.
The new capabilities will expand data diversity by guaranteeing reliable and continuous SAR data delivery.
Pléiades Neo Next
For more than a decade, Airbus has delivered very high-resolution optical imagery for institutional and defence users. Pléiades Neo Next extends this proven capability to address evolving operational needs and ensure long-term continuity of service. Pléiades Neo Next advances the established Pléiades Neo architecture, increasing capacity, sharpening resolution and accuracy, and securing reliable access for years to come.
SUPERIOR IMAGE QUALITY
Pléiades Neo Next is an advanced satellite enhancement designed to significantly upgrade imagery quality and operational capacity. By providing 20 cm-class native resolution and enhanced HD10 imagery, the system enables superior clarity for analyzing complex objects, monitoring critical infrastructure, and performing precise multi-temporal assessments. This high-resolution capability ensures that users can interpret fine details with greater accuracy and confidence.
INCREASED COVERAGE AND SEAMLESS CONTINUITY
Beyond image quality, the system dramatically boosts productivity and seamless integration. It expands daily coverage to 1.3 million km² across the Pléiades Neo constellation, with individual satellites capable of producing up to 600 images per day. Crucially, Pléiades Neo Next is fully compatible with the existing Pléiades Neo ecosystem, utilizing the same satellite architecture, ground control systems, and data formats. This ensures a smooth transition for users through identical interfaces and continued access via existing DRS and OneAtlas environments.
CO3D
Successfully launched on July 25, 2025, CO3D incorporates the latest innovative technologies from Airbus, designed to combine large-scale acquisition capacity with advanced 3D capabilities. By leveraging a unique dual-satellite configuration with high-performance processing capabilities, CO3D delivers both very-high resolution 50cm imagery and precise 3D models enabling users to access reliable, actionable insights at scale.
A UNIQUE CONSTELLATION DESIGN
CO3D features a unique four satellites constellation, organized in two pairs positioned in opposite phases along their orbit. This configuration allows the satellites to capture images simultaneously from different angles, enabling highly accurate 3D models with 1m accuracy. This orbit configuration maximizes daily acquisition capacity, ensuring large-scale coverage without compromising precision.
AN AMBITIOUS GLOBAL MISSION
Developed for the CNES (French Space Agency), with the mission to systematically map the Earth’s land surface in 3D. The mission targets the acquisition of at least 125 million km², with global coverage expected within 3 to 5 years, contributing to a consistent and high-resolution 3D representation of our planet. To optimize acquisition efficiency, the CO3D ground system integrates near real-time weather forecasts that are updated every 15 minutes, ensuring optimal imaging conditions and minimizing cloud interference.
PAZ-2 Constellation
AIRBUS' NEXT GENERATION SAR CAPABILITY
Airbus & Hisdesat have signed a commercialization agreement for the PAZ-2 satellite mission, the Next-Generation Radar Constellation, designed to replace the current constellation (TerraSAR-X/TanDEM-X & PAZ) starting in 2031. PAZ-2 will provide unprecedented image quality and resolution of up to 10 cm, expanded area coverage and NRT delivery capabilities to significantly enhance global monitoring & surveillance as well as geospatial intelligence.
